Eugène de BEAUHARNAIS (1781–1824) L.S. “Prince Eugène,” Munich, March 21, 1817, to Count MÉJAN, his former secretary of the command; 2 pages, in-4. Regarding a claim by Sieur Coën, a matter already dealt with in Italy and deemed to have no bearing whatsoever on the Kingdom, “as it is now foreign to France” and does not concern it either. The matters of his mother’s estate are complicated: “As for the claim by the Black woman, she must address it to Mr. Bon Devaux: this woman was listed among the pensioners entitled to receive payments from my sister. You know that my share is quite substantial.” He would prefer a settlement to a lawsuit: “You cannot imagine to what extent certain individuals are unjustly demanding precisely because they know of my aversion to lawsuits. Yet we must put a stop to these excesses by standing up to the most intrusive among them”… He gives good news about his wife and children; he is expecting another child this year.
