Joe COLOMBO (1930–1970) "Elda" lounge chair, designed in 1965 Lounge chair with an enveloping fiberglass shell, resting on a circular swivel base, featuring seven original removable cushions in tufted black leather. 94x94x84 cm A true masterpiece of Space Age design and the ultimate symbol of 1960s futurism, the Elda armchair was named by Joe Colombo in honor of his wife. It is one of the first industrial designs to utilize such monumental dimensions for molded fiberglass, made possible by the innovative techniques of the shipbuilding and automotive industries of the time. Featuring a 360-degree swivel seat and a protective cocoon-like shell, this armchair is part of the permanent collections of major international museums (including MoMA in New York and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London).
