Numbered 342/400 in the lower left corner and signed in the lower right corner. Commissioned in 1991 to celebrate the centennial of the famous *Gazette de l’Hôtel Drouot* (1891–1991), Bernard Buffet displays his characteristic style to the fullest here. True to his sharp expressionism and thick black outlines, he creates a frame-within-a-frame effect with the commemorative issue of the Gazette, associating it with the attributes of the expert and the chronicler (the inkwell and the quill), framed by a floral arrangement typical of his visual language.
