Frame containing the medals of Paul Didier VÉRAN, cavalry officer and Papal Zouave, including a silver Knight’s Cross of the Legion of Honor, a silver commemorative medal of the Italian Campaign, a Mentana FIDEI ET VIRTUTI medal (1867), with original ribbon, and a Knight’s Star of the Order of Pius IX with ribbon. Minor chips in the enamel. On the reverse, a handwritten label by his grandson, Professor Paul Véran of the Academy of Medicine, describes his career. BE Paul Didier VÉRAN (1820–1897), a captain in the 7th Chasseurs, served in the Crimean and Italian campaigns, joined the Papal Zouaves, and fought against Garibaldi’s forces in Algeria.
