Reni, Guido The Holy Family with a Relief in the Background. Etching. 23.1 x 14.8 cm. B. 9, TIB (Commentary) .004 S2. Watermark: Circle. “If one were not certain that this piece was conceived and engraved by Guido, one would take it to be by Parmigianino, so much does it resemble the latter’s works” (B. XVI, p. 285). An early work by Reni, as Bartsch had already noted, clearly influenced by the art of Parmigianino, in an excellent, clear print with a fine border around the facet, partly cut into it. Only slightly stained; an imperceptibly retouched spot in the margin at the lower right; small mounting residues on the reverse; otherwise very nicely preserved.
