Bartsch: “…one of the most beautiful and rarest in his oeuvre.” One of the master’s principal prints based on Raphael’s famous fresco in the Villa Farnesina, in an excellent—albeit gray—impression with a very fine border around the edge. Dusty and with light stains, primarily on the reverse; a smoothed horizontal fold is frayed on the reverse; the tip of the lower right corner is missing; carefully retouched glazes along the edges, for example at the lower left in the area of the sea creature’s thigh, a small, closed hole in the right forearm of the putto in the sea, additional spot repairs, a faint diagonal crease on the left through the head of the woman with raised arms as well as in the upper corners, further creases and fiber marks; otherwise in good condition. Signed by Johann Sigmund Bermann, 1834 (Lugt 235), and from the Benjamin Petzold Collection (Lugt 2025). - Please request condition reports for individual lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalog. - Please ask for condition reports for individual lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalog.
