Callot, Jacques—after after. *Livre de divers Paysages*. 18 etchings. Each approx. 9 x 17 cm. Meaume 1102, 1106–1113, 1113bis, 1114–1120, 1173bis; not listed in Lieure. Mark: Crowned coat of arms with a post horn and attached letters. From a series—not yet fully reconstructed, but comprising 22 sheets according to Meaume—based on Callot’s drawings for Gaston d’Orléans, now in the Devonshire Collection at Chatsworth. According to Mariette and Meaume, François Collignon was responsible for most of the sheets; other engravers may also have been involved. This set is missing one of the two title pages, two “Advertissement” sheets, and three landscapes. All bear the address of Israël Henriet; four sheets precede the numbered sheets (Meaume 1106–1108, 1113 and onward), while the remainder are consecutively numbered 6–18, differing from the numbering described by Meaume. Excellent to magnificent prints with perforated edges. Occasional minor foxing; the collector’s stamp shows through in places; other minimal signs of wear; otherwise beautiful copies. Very rare. From the collection of Heinrich Lempertz Sr. (Lugt 1337). Included are two etchings by Israël Silvestre, “Vue de la Porte de la Conference” and “Vue du Pont-Neuf,” both printed on the same paper as above, as well as a landscape etching by Stefano della Bella (De Vesme/Massar 751). - Please ask for condition reports for the lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalog. - Please ask for condition reports for individual lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalog.
