Kaisermann, Franz View of Rome and St. Peter’s from Monte Mario. Colored outline etching on sturdy handmade paper. 28.7 x 41.8 cm. In 1789, Franz Kaisermann arrived in Rome, where he became acquainted with the technique of watercolor-enhanced outline etching developed by Ducros. This technique made it possible to publish popular motifs of Roman monuments in large numbers for “Grand Tourists.” At the same time, however, the watercolor-style drawing gave the works the character of one-of-a-kind pieces. An excellent print with brown-ground margins and a black border line. Notably, there are tiny black specks in the sky; the left margin is slightly darkened over 0.8 cm; and there are traces of gum arabic in the tree and bushes on the right; otherwise, it is in beautiful condition with very fresh colors. Provenance: Acquired in 1976 at Galerie Telkamp (Munich); since then in a private collection in southern Germany. - Please ask for condition reports for individual lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalog. - Please ask for condition reports for individual lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalog.
