Fattori, Giovanni Donna del Gabbro—The Woman with the Gabbro. Etching on yellowish China paper. 33 x 20.5 cm. Circa 1883/85. Baboni 110, Baboni/Malesci CLX, Chiappini 6. The figure, depicted from behind, of the so-called “Gabbrigiana”—a recurring motif in Fattori’s oeuvre—is based on the painting *Macchiaiole* and ranks among the most successful versions in his body of work. The fleeting and swiftly applied lines have a somewhat shadowy quality, while the large figure seen from behind itself creates a monumental presence that dominates the image. An excellent, earthy, yet experimental-looking print with a very fine border around the edge of the plate.
