Vicentino, Niccolò Homage to the Beauty of Psyche. Chiaroscuro woodcut from three blocks in black and two shades of gray on blue paper, after Francesco Salviati. 26.9 x 26 cm. Circa 1540. B. XII, p. 125, 26 II, Takahatake 63. Based on an octagonal painting by Salviati for Giovanni Grimani’s palace in Santa Maria Formosa, which he executed around 1539. Bearing the inscription of Andrea Andreani, 1602. A magnificent, bold print that, together with the hues of the blue paper, creates a harmonious effect; the reverse side shows slight raised relief in places.
