Schongauer, Martin The Arrest of Christ. Copperplate engraving. 16.7 x 11.9 cm. B. 10, Lehrs V, p. 128, 20, Hollstein 20. Mark: High Crown (Lehrs 18). An absolutely superb print with delicate tonal shading, beautifully vigorous especially in the shadow areas. Trimmed to or, in some places, minimally just within the plate edge. Slightly dusty; the border line partially retraced in black pen; imperceptible retouching in the lower corners; possibly another small touch-up in the area of the border line below the wrist of the reclining executioner; on the reverse, traces of a counterprint; in the same area, mounting residues in the corners; otherwise a very fine copy.
