Savery, Salomon Four standing women in lavish, fashionable attire. 4 (of 6) etchings after Dirck Hals. Each approx. 15.6 x 10.4 cm. Hollstein 48 ff. Mark: small jug with a crescent moon. The Amsterdam-born engraver Salomon Savery—son of the Flemish painter Jacob Savery—frequently depicted contemporary fashion and genre scenes from everyday life in his engravings. The four women, depicted full-length, wear exquisite dresses characteristic of the fashion in Flanders and the Netherlands around 1620. The etchings are part of a series of six sheets in total. The individual sheets are rare; according to Hollstein, a complete set is preserved only in Copenhagen. Magnificent, bold prints, slightly earthy in tone, with beautiful faceted black along the plate edge and narrow margins. Minimally browned, otherwise in excellent condition. - Please ask for condition reports for the lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalog. - Please ask for condition reports for individual lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalog.
