Ribera, Jusepe de The Penance of St. Peter. Etching. 32.3 x 24.8 cm. 1621. B. 17, Brown 6 I (of II). Mark: a lily within a circle, surmounted by a crown. An absolutely excellent, crisp, only minimally dried early print preceding the title page by Frans van Wyngaerde, with a delicate plate tone and a fine to very fine knurling around the border; the facets are slightly rough in places. A few very inconspicuous touch-ups to the edge glazes, as well as a tiny, closed glaze defect in the hatching behind St. Peter and isolated touch-ups in the lower left corner; a small adhesive residue at the bottom center; otherwise in very fine and original condition.
