Rembrandt Harmensz. van Rijn - Succession Succession. Three Men’s Heads in Profile. Etching. 1.5 x 4.7 cm. Uncatalogued. This small sheet, executed in the style of Rembrandt’s early etchings, represents an extraordinarily rare find in the field of Rembrandt studies. To date, we have been able to identify only one drawn copy of the same dimensions in the British Museum (Inv. No. 1848,0911.192). The London drawing belongs to an interesting group of precise tracings based on prints by Rembrandt and his school from the important collection of the Earl of Aylesford. Excellent print with a fine border around the edge. Slightly browned, mounted in places, otherwise in good condition. From the collections of Sir Joshua Reynolds (according to a pen annotation on the reverse of the backing paper) and H. G. Gutekunst (in the family’s possession ever since). - Please ask for condition reports for individual lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalog. - Please ask for condition reports for individual lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalog.
