Parmigianino, Francesco—after after. Three cherubs carry a fourth Cupid holding an arrow. Copperplate engraving. 31.9 x 21.7 cm. Circa 1530. Not listed in Bartsch. Mark: Coat of arms with a dove on a triple hill (Briquet 12250: 1572). The composition is based on a lost drawing by Parmigianino, an old copy of which is preserved in the British Museum, London. The graceful scene is set against an antique-style landscape backdrop depicting the theme of Apollo and Daphne. Phyllis Deaborn Massar attributes the anonymous copperplate engraving to Enea Vico (Print Quarterly, 2007, 3, p. 282, fig. 158). Excellent, rich-toned print with a fine border around the mounting line. Slight signs of age, isolated mounting residues on the reverse; otherwise, a very good copy. Bears an unidentified collector’s stamp. Extremely rare. - Please ask for condition reports for individual lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalog. - Please ask for condition reports for individual lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalog.
