Italian c. 1550. The Nymph Galathea. Copperplate engraving after Raphael. 40.1 x 28.9 cm. B. (Raimondi) 350 B. This large-format depiction of Galathea is one of two high-quality reproductions described by Bartsch based on Raimondi’s original. The technically sophisticated copperplate engraving is the work of an anonymous Italian engraver who worked for the Roman publisher Antonio Lafreris. An excellent, high-contrast print with a fine plate tone, featuring a wide margin around the sharply defined plate edge. Slight signs of age and minor imperfections; traces of old binding on the left margin; an old chalk annotation on the right margin; otherwise very well preserved. - Please ask for condition reports for individual lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalog. - Please ask for condition reports for individual lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalog.
