Boldrini, Niccolò St. Francis Receives the Stigmata. Woodcut after Titian. 29.5 x 44 cm. Passavant VI, 235, 59, Oberhuber 173, Dreyer 18, Muraro/Rosand 30. The woodcut is attributed to Boldrini; Titian’s authorship as the creator of the composition is confirmed by Vasari’s mention of St. Francis. Muraro and Rosand also point to the stylistic similarity to the altarpiece of St. Peter of Verona, which Titian executed between 1526 and 1530 for the Church of S. Giovanni e Paolo in Venice. An excellent, vigorous, and high-contrast print with a uniform border and even lower margin. As is often the case, the gaps in the border line have been filled in with black pen in places; otherwise, it is in excellent condition. Rare. - Please ask for condition reports for individual lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalog. - Please ask for condition reports for individual lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalog.
