Bellange, Jacques Diana and Orion (Diana and the Hunter). Etching. 47.5 x 20.6 cm. Robert-Dumesnil 36, Walch 10 III, Worthen/Reed 12, Griffiths/Hartley 38. Signed 'Le Blond' grapes with AB cartouche (Griffiths/Hartley, No. 2, Lyon, c. 1630). An absolutely superb, nuanced, and at times bold print on paper typically used by Le Blond for his prints. Partially with a very fine knurled edge around the border line. A delicate, inconspicuously smoothed center fold, with subtle repairs there, as well as a torn edge on the left that has been carefully closed; repaired edge glazes; a tiny repair at the bottom near Le Blond’s address, likely with subtle pen retouching, a tiny hole at the bottom right, mounted over its entire surface on a heavier handmade paper; otherwise, a very fine copy. Extremely rare. From the collection of Samuel Josefowitz and, in 2007, from Robert M. Light, Santa Barbara (according to information from the previous owners), as well as likely from the collection of Karl von Paar (cf. Lugt 2009; here, on the reverse, only a handwritten pen annotation: “Paar vente à Londry [sic!] 1854” on the reverse). - Please ask for condition reports for the lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalog. - Please ask for condition reports for individual lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalog.
