Vintage c. 1910s Philadelphia Press Photo – Early Physiological Plethysmograph Lab Experiment. Original vintage early 20th-century black-and-white gelatin silver press photograph capturing an extraordinary, rare glimpse into the infancy of medical and psychological research, dating to circa the 1910s. The meticulously detailed laboratory scene frames a young researcher or student seated at a wooden work table inside a historic classroom or lecture hall, flanked by a large chalkboard and wood spindle railings. His left arm is inserted into a specialized glass cylinder apparatus—an early clinical plethysmograph or kymograph recording system—used to measure changes in volume within an organ or whole body resulting from fluctuations in blood or air quantity. The intricate mechanical setup is tethered to a system of counterweights and an early ink-stylus recording drum on the left to map his physiological pulse and vascular responses. Medium: Original vintage silver gelatin press photograph Provenance: From the inventories of Artelisted. Note on Dimensions: Media press photos measure mainly 10" x 8" and/or 7" x 9". Some minor size variances can occur due to the normal historical manipulation process. THIS IS A RESERVE AUCTION, and the final price will include a Buyer’s Premium.
