Original vintage black-and-white gelatin silver press photograph capturing a high-angle, wide-field action shot of the historic clash between Harvard University and Dartmouth College, dated October 1926. The photograph brilliantly freezes the precise moment of a key gridiron play executed in front of a packed, towering stadium crowd at Harvard Stadium in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The reverse of the photograph features an attached teal paper news slug that reads: "B31134 HARVARD SURPRISES WITH VICTORY OVER DARTMOUTH. Dartmouth, the undefeated champion of the East, suffered its second defeat in two successive weeks, falling before the Harvard football team at the Cambridge Stadium, 16-12. The photo shows: Guarnaccia, Harvard sophomore back, completing a forward pass to Saltonstall, end, for a twenty yard gain. YOUR CREDIT LINE MUST READ (ACME)". The reverse is stamped with the official property credit marker "This photo is supplied by Acme Newspictures, 461 Eighth Ave., New York City" along with a faint purple archive stamp from the Newspaper Enterprise Association (N.E.A.) Reference Department dated "OCT 30 1926". It also contains handwritten archive code markings (B2000). This exceptional piece captures two historic Ivy League athletic families on the field: sophomore back David Guarnaccia passing to end William L. Saltonstall. It serves as a phenomenal documentation of 1920s college football strategy, architecture, and aesthetic, preserved in excellent working condition with outstanding clarity.
