Passionate about photography and journalism, Solange Brand produced reports rich in historical insight, particularly in China. For her report “Beijing 1966,” Solange Brand traveled to Beijing when she was only 20 years old. She accepted a position as a secretary at the French Embassy. At that time, China was far more different from Europe than it is today. In France, De Gaulle had just recognized the People’s Republic of China, but the country was still considered hostile in the context of the Cold War.
