292 - Saul LEITER (1923–2013). *In My Room*. Steidl, 2017. The archives of American photographer Saul Leiter continue to reveal hidden treasures, such as this series of previously unpublished nudes. *In My Room* presents an in-depth exploration of the nude through intimate photographs of women he met and captured with his camera. In these black-and-white images, the bodies are modestly revealed in the natural light of his studio in New York’s East Village, showcasing a unique collaboration between Leiter and his subjects. The project began when the young Leiter arrived in New York and continued until the late 1960s. In the 1970s, the artist had planned to publish a book of his nudes, but it was never realized. Saul Leiter always preferred solitude and resisted any kind of explanation or analysis of his work. With *In My Room*, the photographer takes the reader into his private world, while retaining his keen sense of mystery.
