448 - TWO LETTERS FROM ABBOT GARNIER Two unpublished autograph letters from 1774 by Abbot Charles-François Garnier (1722–1804), a French scholar, professor at the College of Nobles in Lisbon, chief chaplainof the Church of São Luís dos Franceses, attaché, and even a spy in the service of France. Well-connected #at the Portuguese court, he served as tutor to the 5th Duke of Cadaval. Among other topics, the letters mention his famous library, the sale of his physics laboratory, the funeral rites for Louis XV in Lisbon, and the subsequent celebration of Louis XVI’s acclamation with a Te Deum. Creases, water stains, and some flaws.
