One of four bronze and milk glass Neo-classical style lanterns attributed to Caldwell C 1900. Lacking flat glass on underside of lantern. Provenance: Scottish Rite Temple aka Town Hall Theater, North Broad St., Philadelphia, demolished in 1983. In the early 1980s, Bob Juliano, a local real estate developer and architectural antiques aficionado, purchased seminal architectural elements from the Scottish Rite Temple at 150 North Broad Street in Philadelphia. His notable acquisition included a monumental pair of bronze doors, ten substantial bronze lanterns, as well as eight bronze and glass light fixtures. The Scottish Rite Temple was constructed in 1926 and tragically demolished in 1983. Bob had the foresight and vision to save these important architectural treasures from destruction and gave them a second life, installing these pieces in a preeminent home he built for his family in Northern Maine (photographs available). Bob had the wisdom to secure numerous drawings of the original construction of the Temple on Broad Street. To our surprise and great delight, the plans were drawn and signed by Tiffany Studios. These exceptional architectural pieces were recently removed from the home Bob had built in Maine and have once again come home to Philadelphia to be offered for sale. Kamelot Auction would like to thank Ingrid Juliano for providing us with this intriguing provenance, as it is always inspiring to know the history of noteworthy artifacts such as these.
