SAINT-MALO. — A journal-style account of the events that took place off Saint-Malo, and a brief account of a similar attempt made off Le Havre-de-Grace in Normandy. No place, no date [at the end: Toulouse, J. Boude, 1693]. Large quarto pamphlet of 4 pages, in a modern Bradel-style cardboard binding. Account of the naval raid carried out by the English fleet against Saint-Malo in November 1693. The English had had a gigantic fire ship fitted out and loaded with gunpowder, pitch, and grapeshot, in order to raze the pirate city and put an end to the lucrative activities of the people of Saint-Malo. Their operation ended in a bitter failure. In December of the same year, an English squadron unsuccessfully attempted a similar attack on Le Havre. The account is preceded by a woodcut depicting the profile of the ship prepared to destroy Saint-Malo. A very rare item. Traces of creases and printing marks.
