COLLECTION of royal decrees and proclamations on various subjects, comprising approximately 75 items from the 18th century, including 5 manuscripts and 2 placards. In-4, marbled calfskin, decorated spine, red title label, red edges (contemporary binding). An important collection of approximately 75 documents, nearly half of which were printed in Rouen or pertain to that city: notable examples include *Tres humbles remonstrances du Parlement de Normandie* (1753), documents relating to the arrival of Cardinal de Saulx-Tavanes in Rouen, and this decree issued in 1756 in favor of Messrs. Taillet, Testart, and Le Bourg, merchants from Rouen, regarding “Dutch cheeses that are spoiled, rotten, adulterated, and unfit for human consumption, the consumption and use of which could cause epidemic diseases” (18 pp.). In addition to documents on tobacco, the royal lottery, the postal service, plantations, fairs and markets, books condemned to be torn to shreds, death sentences, etc., the following are also worth noting: — Judgment of the Court of Parliament against Robert-François Damiens, in which he is declared duly found guilty and convicted of the crime of parricide committed by him against the person of the King (Paris, Simon, 1757). — Decree from the Bishop of Saint-Malo ordering public prayers of thanksgiving for the deliverance of the city of Saint-Malo (1758). — Letter from a banker to his correspondent in the provinces (1759). — Letter from the Archbishop of Auch and his suffragans to the King (1755). — Historical account of the capture of the island of Minorca, particularly the Port of Mahón, Fort Saint Philippe, and its capitulation (1756). — Memoirs of the Presiding Judges of the Parliament of Paris against the Dukes and Peers... (a 9-leaf manuscript). — Universal Jubilee granted by Our Holy Father Pope Clement XIII (1759). — Judgment of the Court of Parliament, sentencing Jacques Ringuet, a priest of the Diocese of Cambrai... to be hanged for making seditious and fanatical remarks against the King, Parliament, and the State (1762). Tears in the endpapers. Binding scuffed; tear in the top cap.
