FRONTINIUS (Sextus Julius). *Libri quatuor Strategematicon*. Second edition, greatly expanded and corrected. Leiden, Sam. and Joann. Luchtmans, 1779. In-8, emerald green morocco, triple gilt rule, smooth decorated spine, small interior lace, gilt edges (contemporary binding). A scholarly annotated edition, edited by François Oudenorp, of this famous treatise on military tactics written in the 1st century by the Roman general and engineer Frontinus. It is illustrated with a frontispiece and three fold-out plates, including two maps. A copy from the collection of the bibliophile Antoine-Augustin Renouard (1765–1853), bearing his handwritten bookplate dated 1793 on the title page, in a binding of a subtle hue attributed to Derome. It does not appear in the catalog of the 1819 sale, though another copy of the same book, with an orange morocco spine, is described there (Cat. I, 1819, p. 352). From the Charles Giraud Library (1855, no. 713). Some foxing; the spine has lost some of its luster.
Delivery is optional. You can use the carrier of your choice. The stated price does not include the lot price or the auction house fees.
