[CUISIN]. The Kept Women Exposed in Their Gallant Deceits, or The Scourge of Families and Fortunes. By one of their victims. Paris: Published by the Booksellers of the Palais-Royal, 1821. 2 in-12 volumes, olive half-maroquin, smooth spine with decoration, untrimmed, covers (modern binding). First edition illustrated with 2 engraved figures, one as a frontispiece in each volume. A licentious and immoral work placed on the Index by police order in 1825, in which the author attacks kept women, whom he calls “golden leeches” or “pernicious creatures.” The work takes the form of 10 scandalous stories: “You dishonorable girls and widows, concubines, and adulterous women who sell your favors to cover the expense of your meals, your finery, and your splendid carriages—you are all kept women” (p. XIX). (Gay-Lemonnyer, vol. II, col. 291.) A fine copy.
