COWPER (William). *Anatomia corporum humanorum*. Utrecht, Nicolas Muntendam, 1750. Folio, brown half-calf with corner pieces, decorated spine, red title label, untrimmed (contemporary binding). Second Latin edition of one of the finest anatomy books of the 18th century, by the British surgeon William Cowper (1666–1709). Superb, finely engraved copperplate illustrations, including a frontispiece and 119 highly artistic plates: the majority of them, executed after drawings by the Flemish painter Gérard de Lairesse, were previously used in Bidloo’s *Anatomia humani corporis* (1685). (Choulant, pp. 252–253; Heirs of Hippocrates, no. 725.) Fingerprints on the edges of a few leaves and plates; a vertical crease on the last 3 leaves. The binding has been very crudely restored.
