[BRESSIER (André Clément Victorin)]. New Fables. Dijon, De l'Imprimerie de Frantin, 1824. In-12, light calfskin, blind-stamped fillet, smooth decorated spine, black title label, yellow edges (contemporary binding). A very rare first edition of this collection of 54 fables in verse, followed by an epilogue. Born in Aix-en-Provence, the fabulist Bressier (1766–1849), a lawyer under the Ancien Régime, pursued a career in the administration of state estates, notably in Dijon, where he spent the remainder of his life. A signed dedication by the author on a small slip of paper bound before the text: Presented to Mr. Dejunquières by the author, who has learned that his friend, despite the severity of his reason, would not have disdained the gift of these lighthearted pieces. A beautifully bound copy in light calfskin.
