OFFICIUM ROMANUM B. Mariae Virginis, adapted for the three seasons of the year... Venice, n.p. [Luca Antonio Giunta], 1567. In-16, cream calfskin, covers adorned with a gilded geometric design formed by intersecting bands, the whole interspersed with small fleurons, a Crucifixion in the center of the front cover, and the Virgin and Child on the back cover; decorated spine; gilt and chiseled edges (contemporary binding). A Venetian edition that appears to be unknown to bibliographers, and of which no other copy has been found in online catalogs. Printed in red and black Roman type, it is illustrated with about fifty woodcuts, including at least six full-page ones. The printer’s mark—a red fleur-de-lis—appears on the title page and on the verso of the last leaf. Charming binding decorated with biblical emblems, likely of local origin. Leaves 73 through 79 and 225 are missing. A small tear in the paper affecting a handful of leaves, with what appears to be the loss of a word on leaf 22. A few passages in the text have been crossed out with a pen. The gilt edges are somewhat faded, with one section of the book protruding. The binding has been restored (hinges, headbands, and corners), and minor touch-ups have been made to the front cover.
