MONTE CALERIO (Philippe de). Dominicale. No place, no date [in the colophon]: Lyon, Balthasar de Gabiano, September 10, 1515. Gothic in-4, brown morocco leather with blind-stamped decoration, bordered by broad lines and a scroll pattern featuring acanthus leaves, small interlaced motif in the center, traces of ties, decorated spine (contemporary binding). A Lyon edition of the Sermones dominicales by Philippus a Monte Calerio (Moncalieri in French), a 14th-century Franciscan preacher. Printed in small Gothic type in two columns, 52 lines per page, from the press of Balthasar de Gabiano, the first in a dynasty of printers and booksellers of that name in Lyon. This is the last book printed by Gabiano, just before his death in 1517–1518. (Baudrier, vol. VII, p. 26.) Only one copy is known to exist in the CCFr (Arsenal). Extensive handwritten annotations in a contemporary hand on the endpapers and the upper half-cover; older annotations on the title page, one of which has been crossed out. Attractive binding, strictly contemporary. A small wormhole at the top of the first 10 leaves, on the upper half-cover, and on the first endpaper. Water stains and browning. A small tear on the spine; scuffing on the corners and cap ends.
