Dimensions of the binding: 140 x 100 mm; dimensions of the leaves: 135 x 90 mm. Provenance: 1. Manuscript copied in Normandy (Rouen?) for liturgical use in Rouen (Book of Hours of the Virgin). A date of circa 1430–1450 is based on the handwriting and style of the ornamentation. - 2. Count Chandon de Briailles (Henri de Chandon de Briailles or François de Chandon de Briailles (1892–1956)), a printed ex-libris vignette pasted on the reverse of the first endpaper, with “MSS 154. 1921.” Gilded coat of arms in the center of the covers: Argent, a fess Gules accompanied by three trefoils Sable (Chandon de Briailles). Count François Chandon de Briailles, along with his brother Henri, inherited part of the library of Raoul Chandon de Briailles (1850–1908), himself a historian and founder of the Chandon de Briailles champagne brand. A Chartist and specialist in numismatics, genealogy, heraldry, and archaeology, François Chandon de Briailles was passionate about the history of Champagne; he served as president of the Aube Archaeological Society and as mayor of Chaource from 1922 until his death in 1953.
