HORTULUS ANIMAE. [Colophon]: Paris, Jean Kerbriant, also known as Huguelin, and Jean Bienyaise, 1518. In-16, eggplant-colored shagreen, cold-stamped fillet (modern binding). A charming edition printed in small Gothic type, 24 lines per page, in red and black, with the text set within a frame composed of various ornamental borders. It is illustrated with about a hundred small and medium-sized woodcuts depicting biblical scenes. This appears to be the only known copy of this 1518 Parisian edition, a joint venture between Jean Kerbriant and Jean Bienyaise. It is not listed in Moreau or de Bohatta, and we have found no other copies in the CCFr and WorldCat online catalogs. Kerbriant had already printed an *Hortulus animae* in 1516 (see Moreau, vol. II, no. 1402), the only known copy of which is held at Saint-Florian in Austria. An incomplete copy consisting of 4 folios from section a, including the title page, and sections d and e, for a total of 20 folios. A woodcut, formerly painted, depicting the Trinity has been pasted onto the first page of the volume. Restoration at the lower corner of the last leaf; a small loss along the edge of two leaves in section l. A few stains.
