FRISIUS (Joannes). Novum dictionariolum puerorum latino germanicum. Zurich, Froschover, 1586. A substantial volume in small quarto, cold-stamped sowhide on wooden boards, decorated with fillets and scrolls featuring small medallion portraits, chiseled clasps, and a ribbed spine (contemporary binding). A Latin-German dictionary of over 1,000 pages, including at the end a long list of specific technical terms classified by “specialties”: colors, diseases, parts of the human body, animals, birds, insects, plants, fruits, coins, mathematics, navigation, warfare, as well as agriculture and rural economics—the latter two grouped under the heading *Rei rusticae vocabula* (pp. 983–993). Printed in two columns, with the title set within an attractive frame adorned with arabesques and grotesques. A fine woodcut portrait of the author, signed with the initials TS—presumably those of Tobias Stimmer. An old handwritten bookplate from a Jesuit monastery on the title page (name scratched out). Attractive embossed binding of the period. Paper restoration at the lower corner of the last leaf; severely foxed quires; misordered leaves in quire ii. One broken clasp.
