EURIPIDES. Electra [in Greek]. Rome, n.p. [Antonio Blado], 1545. In-8, light calfskin, Du Seuil-style decoration, decorated spine, inner roulette, gilt edges (Mid-19th-century binding). First edition of Electra. This tragedy by Euripides was discovered in the first half of the 16th century by Pietro Vettori, and therefore did not appear in the collected works of the Greek playwright published by Aldus in 1503. A very fine printing in Greek type. With, bound at the front: — *POETAE tres egregii nunc primum in lucem editi*... Venice, Aldus, 1534. A very rare Aldine edition, edited by the humanist Georg von Logau, bringing together six texts from antiquity and the Renaissance on hunting, fishing, and pastoral poetry: it includes the first book of Gratius’s *De venatione*, Ovid’s *Halieutica*, Nemesianus’s *Cynegetica* and *Bucolica*, and Cardinal Adriano Castellesi’s *De venatio*. According to Renouard, the poems by Gratius and Nemesian, as well as the fragment by Ovid, appear here for the first time. (Renouard, Alde, p. 113, no. 10; Souhart, p. 381.) — JANUS PANNONIUS. Ad Guarium Veronensem panegyricus. Venice, Gualtiero Scotto, 1553. A precious collection. On the spine is a piece titled: Variorum poetarum carmina. The upper hinge has been skillfully restored.
