John Tallis & Co - Cape Colony engraved by J Rapkin 1851. This is an original 1851 antique steel-engraved map of the Cape Colony in South Africa, published by John Tallis & Company. It was drawn and engraved by John Rapkin, with decorative vignettes illustrating local landscapes and native figures. Illustrations were drawn by H. Warren and engravings by H. Bond. Featured in R. Montgomery Martin’s The Illustrated Atlas and Modern History of the World. Features ornamental decorative borders, regional boundaries with original outline hand-coloring, a scale in miles, and pictorial vignettes including Cape Town and Table Mountain.
