VAUTRIN Line (1913–1997). Talosel pendant depicting an eagle. VL monogram. Height: approximately 9.5 cm Line Vautrin was a French artist and designer, active primarily between the 1930s and 1960s. She initially worked with gilded bronze (boxes, mirrors, jewelry), then made a name for herself with a material she developed: Talosel. This is a synthetic resin invented by Line Vautrin in the late 1950s, in collaboration with a chemist. The name is said to derive from “Talos” and “sel” (salt). She poured it into bronze or metal molds, incorporated mirror shards, glitter, glass fragments, or pigments, and then sanded and polished it. The result is a translucent material, often tinted in warm tones (amber, brown, green, blue) and dotted with mirror inclusions that catch the light.
