MARAIS, Jean (1913–1998). “Adam and Eve” vase in glazed ceramic with a black lustre. The side handles are formed by the drapery held by the figures. Signed on the base. Dimensions: 30 cm x 30 cm Having settled in Vallauris in the 1970s, the actor became a ceramicist, sculptor, and potter. His visual art, long overshadowed by his fame on the silver screen, is now being rediscovered: stylized faces, animal sculptures, sculptural vases, and glazed dishes. Every piece signed by Marais bears the mark of a man who sought to create right up until his final day.
