ROTRAUT, Rotraut Klein-Moquay (born in 1938). Important "Abstraction" painting. A composition that straddles the line between painting and sculpture, featuring the use of KLEIN blue. 149 x 149 cm. 1988. Minor imperfections. As early as 1956, Rotraut Uecker created her first “Galaxies,” which took the cosmos as their inspiration. The artist applied large quantities of droplets of white paste to the surface of her support—canvas mounted on wood—which would then harden. The entire surface is then covered with India ink or black paint. Next, by scraping away the blackened area with sandpaper, Rotraut Uecker reveals some of these points of light.
