84 - GILL, Mariquita (1861–1915). "Houses by the Water," oil on panel, signed lower right, 14 x 22 cm. Framed. A naturalized American Impressionist painter, he was born in Montevideo (Uruguay) and studied painting in New York and Paris. He was part of the first generation of American painters to live and work in Giverny, following in the footsteps of Claude MONET. He painted seascapes and landscapes featuring flower-filled gardens, both in France and on the American continent, particularly in New Mexico.
