Clara Porges 1879 Berlin – 1963 Samedan Landscape near Alassio with Gallinara Island Watercolor Signed lower left: C-PORGES. Inscribed on the backing: Vogelinsel. Alassio. Riviera dei Fiori Framed Image dimensions: height 46 cm, width 40 cm (sheet size) A native of Berlin, she studied at the city’s art school and the Fehr Academy before further developing her landscape painting during extensive travels. Beginning in 1911, she spent time regularly in the Engadin, whose light and mountain landscapes became her favorite subjects. She also traveled repeatedly to Italy, particularly the Ligurian coast. This work depicts the landscape near Alassio with the island of Gallinara in the foreground and is thus one of her lesser-known Mediterranean views.
