Edmondo Dobrzanski 1914 Zug – 1997 Lugano Bouquet of Dried Flowers. 1962 Oil on canvas Signed upper right: Dobrzanski. Dated on the reverse: 1962 Framed 80 × 100 cm The exploration of social and existential themes shaped the artistic work of Edmondo Dobrzanski (1914–1997), who created landscapes and still lifes in addition to powerful figurative works. His artistic training took him to Milan, where he studied under Aldo Carpi at the Accademia di Brera from 1936 to 1942. He then worked in Zurich as an illustrator for the newspaper “Volksrecht” before settling in Ticino in 1950. There he developed a distinctive visual language situated between expressive figuration and informal painting, in which color and its material effect became increasingly significant. “Mazzo di fiori secchi” is one of his floral still lifes, a subject the artist repeatedly explored in the years that followed.
