Tsingos Thanos 1914 Elefsina – 1965 Athens Flowers. 1955 Oil on hardboard Signed and dated lower right: Tsingos 55 Framed 46 × 55 cm Dobiaschofsky Auctions, Bern, November 5, 2021, Lot 498; Private collection, Switzerland Flowers, seascapes, and abstract color compositions are among the characteristic motifs of Thanos Tsingos, one of the most idiosyncratic representatives of postwar Greek modernism. His painting is characterized by a spontaneous application of paint—often applied with his fingers or a palette knife—and a pronounced three-dimensional effect. Originally trained as an architect, he traveled via Brazil to Paris in 1948, where he initially devoted himself to experimental theater. In the French capital, he connected with the artistic avant-garde and developed an expressive visual language within the Informel movement. In 1961, he returned to Greece, where he lived in Athens until his death. Auction date: November 28, 2026 Approximate auction time: 2:28 p.m. CET
