Roy Jamini 1887 Beliatore, Bengal – 1972 Kolkata Untitled Ink on paper Signed lower right: Roy Jamini Framed 21 × 16 cm (sheet size) Delhi Art Gallery, Delhi, August 4, 2007; private collection, Switzerland For Roy Jamini, the traditional folk art of Bengal served as the starting point for a distinctive modern visual language. After training at the Government School of Art in Kolkata, the Indian artist turned away from Western-style academic painting and increasingly drew inspiration from regional artistic traditions, particularly Kalighat paintings and the art of the Patua, Bengali scroll painters. His works, including numerous pieces on paper, are characterized by bold contours, simplified forms, and clearly defined areas of color. His favorite motifs included religious scenes, animals, mother-and-child scenes, and figures from rural daily life. In 1955, he was awarded the Indian Padma Bhushan state order. Edges minimally browned Auction date: November 28, 2026 Approximate auction time: 2:13 p.m. CET
