Hermann Nitsch 1938 Vienna – 2022 Mistelbach Untitled. Circa 1980 Mixed media on fabric Signed lower left: Hermann Nitsch Framed 57 × 49.5 cm (sheet size) Richard H. Berger Collection; private collection, Switzerland With his “Orgien Mysterien Theater” (Theater of Orgies and Mysteries), founded in 1957, Hermann Nitsch developed a radical fusion of painting, music, theater, and ritual performance. The Austrian artist was one of the leading figures of Viennese Actionism and made the physical act of painting itself an integral part of his art. His pour-over and action paintings were created by applying, splattering, and spreading paint onto canvas or fabric. In this work, the irregular white traces of paint form a striking contrast to the brownish background. The visible deposits and textures point to the immediate, gestural creative process characteristic of Nitsch’s painting. Auction Date: November 28, 2026 Approximate Auction Time: 2:06 p.m. CET
