Nikifor (born Drowniak Epifaniusz) 1895 Krynica-Zdrój – 1968 Folusz Tuchów Colored chalk Titled and faintly inscribed at the bottom: TUCHOW MIASTO ROSYTA POLSELO. Artist’s stamp on the reverse Framed 16.7 × 22.8 cm (sheet size) For decades, Nikifor sat on the streets of the Polish spa town of Krynica with a small paintbox and a wooden box full of drawings, offering his works for sale to passersby. A self-taught artist from the Lemko ethnic group, he lived in poverty and, due to a speech impediment, had difficulty communicating with those around him. It was not until the 1950s that his living conditions improved as a result of the growing recognition of his art. On simple sheets of paper, pieces of cardboard, and packaging materials, he created a distinctive visual world of cityscapes, churches, landscapes, and imaginative architectural designs. Today, he is regarded as a significant representative of naïve art, whose work is also viewed within the context of outsider art. br>Upper edge irregular (presumably intentional on the artist’s part) Auction date: November 28, 2026 Approximate auction time: 2:03 p.m. CET
