The artist explores the rhythm and repetition of simple forms, as well as the relationship between color and the picture surface. In addition to his characteristic works on unprimed, unstretched canvas, he created numerous works on paper, particularly in watercolor and ink. Here, too, his compositions are defined by the repetition of gestural marks, the deliberate inclusion of the untreated surface, and the principle of incompleteness.
