Eduard Rüdisühli 1875 Basel – 1938 Rorschacherberg Scene in the Style of Antiquity Oil on canvas Signed and inscribed lower right: Ed. Rüdisühli Zürich Framed 100 × 140.5 cm Arnold Böcklin’s mythological and classical-inspired imagery exerted a formative influence on the work of Eduard Rüdisühli. Born into a family of artists in Basel, the painter received his first instruction from his father, Jakob Lorenz Rüdisühli, and subsequently attended the School of Applied Arts in Basel. Study trips took him to Romania, Greece, and Constantinople, among other places. In his paintings, he frequently combined idealized landscapes with ancient architectural elements and mythological motifs. The present “Scene in the Classical Style” is a prime example of this visual language inspired by Böcklin. Many of his compositions were widely disseminated through color reproductions and art postcards. Auction date: November 28, 2026 Approximate auction time: 10:49 a.m. CET
