The atmospheric effects of light and weather were central to the landscape painting of Albert Marie Lebourg (1849–1928). The French artist is considered a representative of Impressionism and devoted himself in particular to river landscapes and riverside views. After spending several years in Algeria, he worked primarily in Normandy and the Paris area. This painting, “Bords de l’Iton,” depicts a landscape along the banks of the Iton River in Normandy and illustrates Lebourg’s interest in changing light conditions and their artistic rendering.
